ワイゲラs are easily grown, undemanding plants that soon develop into fine leafy shrubs with showy early summer flowers and, in some cases, attractive variegated foliage. Varieties of both kinds have evolved from the most popular species, ワイゲラ florida, a Far Eastern species introduced in 1848 and used many times since to sire new hybrids. Their funnel-shaped flowers are well loved by bumblebees.

ワイゲラ florida 「多様」 is one of the best variegated weigelas available. It's smaller and more compact than the species, with dense cream and green leaves, and prolific rose-pink blooms. Perfect for a warm sunny site, it works well with a variety of herbaceous perennials and other shrubs. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
